general flute question

I blelieve that open holes increase the tone
quality greatly. As for the advantage to open hole...it forces better hand
posture and also makes glissando's easier.

Marching

Buy a cheap, reliable flute. Dont go all out for you MB flute. But hey, if youre just going to go out and buy a flute just for marching band, why not get a piccolo instead? They are heard better, and wayyyy more fun to play. [;)] As for open hole v. closed hole, it dosnet really matter- but if youre...

Saxophones

lol- dont like saxes, eh? My band director is a sax, so i
guess i have a certain tolerance toward them. [:p] But i too play sax- i can see
how it can get annyoing though. Personally, i find the trumpet section annoying-
but thats jsut me. They have an overwhelming superiority complex.

I love Mr. Hollands Opus, and i think
American Pie is a funny band movie. But musical-wise, I like all kinds of
musicals. Right now im in the musical 42nd street, so im a little partial to

Why are flutes marching bands

Im in marching band- and i think flutes are just there to help make a fuller sound. I know that at my very small school, if we had an all brass band, we would have about 20 people in it. So, when you add quieter instuments like flutes and clarinets you get a fuller sound. *shrugs* I play piccolo tho...

What is Your Opinion on Male Flutists?

My exboyfriend played flute. And
he wasnt afraid of the stereotype. He was actaully very good at it, thus giving
us alot to talk about. I learned quite a bit from that guy. [:)] I miss you
