How to attack playing a piece of music
When I want to attack a piece of music, I like to go to the kitchen and get a knife. Then I stealthily sneak up on it, and then I tell it "prepare to die!", and then I die it... Anymawho... I just play it how I feel it. Music is an artform of self-expression, and it can't be dictated by written word...

Trouble with High E Naturals
Try picking up the pinky on your right
hand... it made worlds of difference for me until i figured out my own mouth
problems on that note.

open hole trouble
I've found that my flute has MUCH better intonation when the plugs are out. About the vibrato question, under NO circumstances should a finger vibrato be warranted on any instrument. Vibrato is a more advanced technique because it takes the ability and experience. Hope I answered your question [:)] ...

How do I play vibrato?
Yeah, I agree with the diaphragm thing, but I got some pointers from the flute professor at Bowling Green State University. He said that when you figure out how to make the vibrating tone, play a straight whole note (no vibrato), then play a whole note with the vibrato pulse on the quarter note, the...

piccolo shopping
I play on a Gemeinhardt 4P, but I also have a Solid Silver headjoint that I actually use more often than the plastic. I got it from Ebay, but ebay is a big risk. Mine was $100, but it needed a repad, so just watch out. Other brands I would recommend include Armstrong (very sturdy entry-level piccolo...

emerson flutes
I've never owned an Emerson flute, but I've played a few. I like how the ones I played felt, and I would recommend them any day. I would buy one, but Gemeinhardt's where my heart is... that's all I play now. And on a sidenote, William Hung is my hero. He had the confidence to go audition, and he had...

No time or interest for anything else! ---------------- [/quote] It seems like a lot, but it's not really once you g...

What other instruments do you play?
I''ve been reading these forums for a little while now, and I was just wondering what other instruments you all play and how long you''ve been playing them. Obviously we all play flute (this is my 7th year on flute). For Me: Piccolo - about a year and a half Clarinet- about 5 years Alto Sax - about ...
