Wow, Thanks. That makes tons of sense. Now, why do those not show up on fingering charts as alternate fingerings? That's essentially what they are. Is there a good printable version of that kind of page? I really appreciate you hanging around in this beginner forum and answering my questions. Thanks...

I'm working on a piece that I need to almost trill between C# and D. How in the world do you jump back and forth between notes that require you to hold almost everything down and then nothing? Are there tricks to dealing with those kinds of note shifts where you hold many keys and then almost none? ...

How do I properly finger a b flat? I've got a bunch of options on my Gemeinhardt fingering chart. I've been doing the two-button thumb, but as I start playing some of the lines after the note is introduced, that seems quite clumsy, especially if I have to go from a b to a b flat, or verse-visa. Just how evil would it be to start the child on a fife? Then they can transfer to a real flute once their arms are long enough in a few years. Realistically, wouldn't all elementary/beginner work a youngster like that would achieve in the first years be doable on the lesser instrument. Not sure just...

Just picked up a used flute for cheap. Seems to be working pretty good. Gemeinhardt. I'm wondering about fingering.
