It can certaintly cause permanant damage. I'm only a freshman in high school and due to bad pinky placement from 4th grade through 7th grade my pinky is permenantly crooked.

It all comes down to what you like best. I reccomend trying them. I picked an offset; split e and I love it it's perfect for me. But see what works for you.

This is called an upright flute. It's incredibly unique, it gives you the oppurtunity to hear the sound equally in BOTH ears. Which can help your tone A LOT. Most school bands have that problem. Especially in middle school. But it's usually because there are just too many drummers. In orchestras theres never more than 4 drummers

Every flute is different. Try flutes from any brand you can find. Gemeinhardt, Pearl, Yamaha, Armstrong, Emerson, Winston, Any brand you can find. Ask your flute teacher/band director what she thinks. But make sure you try try try try try try try all different flutes.
