I'm only 15 but I can tell you there must be 50 people here who picked up their flutes for the first time(or the first since they were kids in some cases) after the age of 45.

Youre definately not alone

It can certaintly cause permanant damage. I'm only a freshman in high school and due to bad pinky placement from 4th grade through 7th grade my pinky is permenantly crooked.

Their all basically the same, so get good at each it takes individual practice and lessons will help but it's possible to do on your own

It all comes down to what you like best. I reccomend trying them. I picked an offset; split e and I love it it's perfect for me. But see what works for you.

Most school bands have that problem. Especially in middle school. But it's usually because there are just too many drummers. In orchestras theres never more than 4 drummers

Every flute is different. Try flutes from any brand you can find. Gemeinhardt, Pearl, Yamaha, Armstrong, Emerson, Winston, Any brand you can find. Ask your flute teacher/band director what she thinks. But make sure you try try try try try try try all different flutes.
