Church Orchestra
I played in our church's orchestra for over 20 years - a large 40 - 50 piece orchestra, every Sunday, for multiple services. We practiced once a week for two hours - many more for special presentations (Christmas, Easter, ect...). The music covered eveything from traditional hymns, cool jazzy & sals...

Do any of you own a "Symphony Flute"??
I have a student whose Mom called me to ask advice on a "Symphony" brand flute - have any of you heard anything about it?? I can't find much on the internet, and I don't know anyone who has played one. Who is it made by? Good - Bad?? How does it compare to the Yamaha "Allegro" (the other flute they ...

Hi ~ I play in a large Flute Orchestra in Michigan that actually owns a contra-bass flute! I haven't had a chance to try it yet (we are a large group, and I have to wait my turn!) but you should HEAR it! It's glorious - deep and throaty, almost like a pipe organ. It adds a lovely depth to our music,...

Poll- What kind of flute do you have?
Hi ~ I am playing the Gemeinhardt 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Flute: solid silver head, body & foot, 12k white gold springs, B foot, off-set G, 9k solid gold engraved liplate with a rosegold riser which was gorgeous, but I couldn't stand this thinwall headjoint! After playing it for 3 years, I ...

How to attack playing a piece of music
Interesting topic...my goal is to get my students to "feel" the music instead of just playing the notes. As a creative artist type, I try to paint a picture of what the music is trying to convey (sometimes we just have to guess..) by telling silly stories, or conjuring up "mind pictures" or colors. ...

Hello ~ I'm new!
Hi Gigihr ~ Thanks for the response! Here is the website for our flute choir - we have about 50 members strong in the adult choir. It's amazing what beautiful sounds can be produced with that many players. We have many altos & bass flutes, piccolos, and have recently purchased a contra bass flute. W...

Hello ~ I'm new
Hi - I happened to stumble across this great site while surfing the net. How sweet it is to find a group of people who love the flute as much as I! A little about myself...I am an "almost" 40 mother of three, very happily married for 20 years, and have played the flute since 5th grade (I dare not co...
