also, drop your jaw to let lots of warm air go through the

my flute turns me black.....
this never happened to me, but my friend told me
about how she polished her flute right before a concert and it made marks on her
face. try wiping the mouthpiece really well with a clean cloth.

switching to a double-reed
it could potentially mess you up if you play both of them at the same time. i tried playing the oboe once, but it was only for a few days and i was just trying it out for fun. i think the embouchures are different for each instrument, so it would take some adjustment between them. if the transition ...

it really helps if you play with a metronome. start
at a slow beat like damjan said, and only turn it up faster when you've played
the sequence perfectly. it's all about muscle memory, so if you keep practicing
you'll get it. : )

that's a pretty extensive list of requirements! anyway.. my friend is getting a muramatsu (?? i don't remember exactly, it's a japanese brand) and it's supposed to be REALLY nice. no need for alternate fingerings, perfect pitch, but really expensive.. hers is gonna cost 12k. so if you're willing to ...

oh but it does.. for our band festival, they made us
wait outside for 10 mins and it was freezing. our pitch got really screwed up
because of that, cause we didn't have enough time to warm up again.

ooo every time i hear 'tuner,' i remember what my band directors have always told me.. (it's engraved in my head) when you want to tune your instrument and have a tuner handy, play your note first and sit on it a while, then look at the tuner. if you look at the tuner then play, you're just adjustin...

Open vs Closed hole flutes
the student model flutes (closed) with the c
foot have a pretty limited range.. i tried to play C4 and couldn't get anything
out. haven't tried it on a closed-holed flute with a b foot though, i've heard
that it helps to have that gizmo key. gahh i hate those high notes!

Open vs Closed hole flutes
i'd been playing on a closed-holed flute for around 7 years, and this year my friend (who is going to have her 5th flute soon... ahh!!) lent me one of her old open-holed flutes. my old flute is a really good flute for being a beginner's, but when i first started playing my friend's flute there was a...

make sure your flute is dry before you put it away; wet
keys can damage your pads.. and pad replacement is very expensive.
