Sorry guys, you have your opinion I have mine. I simply do not see a downside to buying an open hole flute. John In some respects, open holes are actually inferior to closed holes (though that's a different discussion entirely, and doesn't belong in this thread). There is no downside to buying open...

I won't argue with Flutepicc06's opinion concerning open holed flutes. Lets assume he is 100% correct. I would still suggest you upgrade to an open hole flute, solely with economics in mind. It's going to be a little harder to sell a closed hole professional flute if you decide to upgrade again. Plu...

I guess main concern with padding a pro flute with student pads involve adjustability. Since many pro flutes do not have adjustment screws for the keys. And I'm assuming the 881 does not have adjustment screws. This coupled with many novice flute players pressing too firmly on the keys. I fear it wi...

You can always email Yamaha with your flutes serial number to find out the actual age. It seems your having second thoughts about this flute. It so, you might want to consider putting it back on ebay. I gather the seller may have misled you concerning the age and condition. Initially you said 10 yea...

Are you looking for a new or used flute? Either way a student model Yamaha 300 Series would be good. You could also rent for a while to see if your really inclined toward the flute. Your previous experience on piano and trombone is only useful in terms of music reading. The flute is a whole differen...

Possibly ebay. Then again I just checked ebay and I never heard of any of the brands for sale there. I don't think you will find many of these floating around 2nd hand. You might want to just buy a new one from fluteworld. You could also call fluteworld and tell then to give you a call if one become...

You might want to simulate the audition experience as much as possible so there are no surprises. In our state the the judges are usually sitting with their backs to the student (this freaks some kids out). And often times they will use hand written script for the sightreading test (this also throws...

If it's where you indicated, it shouldn't cause a problem playing. However, you should never leave a tooth missing, because the tooth above/or below it will continue to push out because there is no opposite tooth to stop it. Thats why an orthodontist makes sure that every upper tooth is touching a l...

I have one, it's an excellent piccolo for the money. You can easily get a new 4W discounted for about $950. For your info, in 1997 Gemeinhardt purchased the Roy Seamans Piccolo company. Since 1997, Gemeinhardt piccolos are being made with the original Roy Seaman tooling to the original specs. They a...

Sinebar, Your really going about buying a flute the wrong way. It's not about the getting the best deal. It's a delicate marriage between the player, the players level and the instrument. Thats why there's places like Fluteworld and Weissmans that carry big inventories of very expensive conservatory...

should have said a light cycle "gun oil" rather than grease. I only put a smear of gease over the 3 joins head body and foot. Have never touched the keys or the tubes. But yeah can see your points about the "glue" Probably best to try and find a free flute to practice disasembly and proper cleaning...

Haven't tried the 101 or 102, but did try the 202 which is the same flute but with an all silver headjoint. It's an excellent instrument. I would email or call one of the Miyazawa stores like JL Smith, to see what the real difference is between the 101 and the 102. However, I would lean toward the n...
