1. Tell me about yourself! What flute do you use? Just some basic info I'm 17, from Canada, and I started flute just after my 16th birthday (October 10th). I started off with a Gemeinhardt 72SP student model flute and just recently upgraded to a Yamaha YFL-481H intermediate model. I will be complet...

Why's it matter how your embouchure is like if you play beautifully? I play with an offset embouchure. It gives me the best sound I can possibly produce. One of my teacher's students plays with her mouth so far off, but still produces a beautiful sound. Do what's right for YOU. Listen to yourself. A...

I had a Gemeinhardt 72SP student model flute that played beautifully. I haven't tried other models from Gemeinhardt but I've heard that they're more reliable than, say, any other not-as-well-known brands out there. Pearl, on the other hand, I've tried and it's quite a deal heavier than the Gemeinhar...

The easiest thing to do is to have someone watch you while you play. Have them watch for which fingers are coming down, consistently, and directly over your plugs. Then, you can remove the plugs for those fingers. The thing is, don't be AFRAID to take them out. Sure, you'll sound horrible for a few ...

I've done this...but I want to do this!

Let's see just how far the flute players on this board have come. List one thing that you've worked really hard on and finally achieved as well as one thing that you're working really hard on right now and want to achieve. Encourage each other!! I'll start. I managed to go from someone who d...

When you sent your flute in for servicing, did they check whether or not you had leakage problems with your pads? If they didn't, you might want to ask them to check for you. Other than that, maybe just practice long, long tones for awhile until the notes start coming back to you. Stand up striaght,...
