I don't know much about their flutes but Mollenhauer is a big name in recorders. A high end brand.

I'm playing in the second octave because the lowest note is A below low C, so then I jump up and play the top A in the first octave. That is gorgeous, and one of my favourite pieces to play at this time of year.

Congrats on the new flute. I see that both of the trill pads appear to have small tears in the pad skins. That may not affect playability at the moment, but they are likely to get worse over time. Had some birthday and Christmas money and this flute jumped into my basket.
Its the same brand as my clarinet (Windsor) which in 3 years hasn't put a foot wrong.

Also there is a flute by Windsor, very cheap. I have a Windsor clarinet, had it 3 years, it's still very playable. That flute is tempting me, though Windsor have no website.

I've seen a lot of positive reviews of gear4music instruments, including a flute selling for £100 (also an open hole flute for a few casholas more)
But I was wondering who actually makes them? And has anyone played one?

Another way would be to use a headjoint with a moveable embouchure hole. You slide it up and down as you blow and the pitch rises and falls. A bit expensive though I expect. The other day, I went to an estate sale and picked up a Yamaha 225s flute for $22.50! It and the case are in great shape (no dings, dents scrapes). The flute itself is tarnished a bit, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

I wonder if, like with recorder, you can cover the end of the tube and blow gently. On recorder that lowers the pitch by a semitone, allowing an alto recorder to go to E. A bit impractical on flute I suppose...

Well I did a silly thing. I got so frustrated from struggling with the flute that I got rid of it, donated it to a charity shop. It was only a cheap flute, and it was second hand so not worth selling.
But now I find myself wanting another, better flute. Might have to go to ebay...

I've spotted a few of these on ebay, at very low prices. I never knew Buffet made flutes. When did they stop making them, and are they worth getting for a beginner?
