Re: Back to flute after 20 years

Hello andyh. I got injured left hand fingers last year and couldn't play the flute for more than six months. It took four months till I could play as before. We need to do some special movements of fingers and lips that we don't do in ordinary life. We forget them if we don't play the flute for some...

The S2 pads are very similar to Straubinger and were created to compete with Straubinger.
Seems like that. I just remembered that a repairman at Yamaha told me Straubinger pads had been mounted on my Signature. It was two years ago and I had forgotten!

Re: Powell Signature

I sent a question to Powell and just got a reply. Signature flutes use the microfiber S2 pads. However, it turned out that my Signature should have come with Straubinger pads from its year of manufacture!

Powell Signature

Hello. I have a question about the pads of Powell Signature. The spec says Pisoni S2 Standard pads are installed in it. Seeing Pisoni's catalog, I found two types of S2 pads, hi-tech felt and microfibre. Which is used for Powell Signature?

Thankds, Ryo

Re: Repadding Powell 2100

After all, I had my 2100 repadded with cloth felt pads last month. The tone became brighter with rich harmonics. The repairman made the stabilizers from cardboard and replaced the Straubinger's with them. It's really fun to play the 2100 now!

Re: Adjusting Strauginger pads

Hello, Joe B.

Thanks for your comment. I brought the Signature to an atelier last week, then the pads and the key balance were adjusted, now the flute rings fine.

Adjusting Strauginger pads

Hello. I recently got a used Powell Signature flute of which pads have been replaced with Straubinger's. I know Straubinger pads don't prove their merits with machine-made flutes, but it seems that the installation was no good, so some pads are leaky. Is it adjustable with shimming? Or does it need ...

Re: Repadding Powell 2100

Hello, Joe B. Thanks for the info. Yes, 104ET seems thin enough for the 2100's shallow cups. :D

Anyway, I will bring my flute to some repair shops for estimation this weekend.

Re: Repadding Powell 2100

Hello, pied_piper. Thanks for your comment. No, I have no wish to replace the pads myself. I am quite sure my flute will fall into the worst condition if I do it myself. The reason that I want to replace the pads with other than Straubinger is the maintenance cost. Pads are expensive, the wage...

Repadding Powell 2100

Hello.

I am thinking of repadding my powell 2100. I think soft pads fit better than Straubinger, but its key cups are shallow and I don't know what type of pads can be installed. Are there soft and thin pads installable in the 2100 key cups? Any comments are welcome. Thanks.

Re: Is my flute broken?

The same problem happened to my flute a few weeks ago. In my case, the cause was disbalance of G and G# keys, as the tiny screw had loosened. I just tightened the screw and fixed it with manicure. :D
