I actually ended up buying one months ago...and I do love it. I got an Emanuel with a gold riser. I thought I really liked my Sankyo (I think is was an RS-1 or something like that) and thought I would probably switch them off...the Sankyo for a big and powerful sound and the Emanuel for a sweeter co...

I think this is one of the flutes that are made from softer metal...like the First Act flutes and other ones that you find in large generic retail stores. One of my students bought one as a "school flute" and she keeps her other one at home. She doesn't seem to have problems with its playing conditi...

Definatly go with the interview if they cannot change it. The honor of all county is making it. You already did that...so that goes on your application. The fact that you don't go b/c of a conflict isn't a big deal. I didn't go to All-State my senior year b/c of prom. I know that may sound silly for...

I have a Sankyo and love it...great big sound and projects great. However, I know that many of the other flutes you named are great too. If I were you...and if there is NO way you can try any...I would try to listen to some recordings of people playing them. James Galway plays 13 (?) different flute...

I like the rubank series a lot. I use all levels of those books. I supplement with... Beginner: 40 little pieces, 65 little pieces, duet books Intermediate: Concert and Contest, duets, scales, scale exercises (Taffenel and Gaubert for example) Advanced: I customize for each person. Solo rep. such as...

All State is for middle and high schoolers (atleast here in GA). Basically you go thru a couple of 'cuts'...if you make it you get to play in the all-state band (only a one weekend event), play a concert, get a certificate and a medal. Basically, yes, it is just something to put on resumes/college a...

Personally, I usually start with long tones. I like to make sure I have the sound I want before going on to other things. Then, as far as all the others go...scales, arpeggios, articulation...I practice the Taffenel and Gaubert 17 daily studies. I alternate articulations and on some studies even rhy...

My question focuses on the fact that when I try to use a timing reference (as in my past use of a four strum using two different chords - meaning that for 6/8 time, common in Irish traditional music, I might strum the C chord six times then then G chord six times then repeat the sequence) Again, if...

Jaded, I am not quite sure that I understand what you are asking...but when playing 'with' a metronome, you will not always be playing on the beat (or tic) with it. Say, you are playing in 4/4 or 3/4, or 2/4 time...you would only play with every click if you were playing quarter notes. So, if you ha...

Ok, I have noticed some metronomes without great time...usually the really cheap ones. One that I have as a backup metronome...Sabine Metrotune...often is not near as precise as my Dr Beat 88. But, even at that...I agree that it is still better then most drummers. I have met a few percussionist who ...

One year warranty on manufacture defects. I don't know if this would be considered one. Worth a call.

I did the same thing. My mom got me a flute in 5th grade and I had no lessons. I tried really hard, but the books were not telling me much. In 6th grade i started band and asked a TON of questions. I progressed rapidly. Then by 7th grade we realized we needed a more specialized teacher (other then a...

I often take students thru levels of metronome playing. Such as beginning with heavy accents to line up with the metronome, then feeling the accents more (either with foot or slight movement), to eventually just making it line up in your head...really listening. I feel that the physical sensation of...
