I play one a vintage Haynes (1960's) and a David Williams headjoint that Mr. Williams fit to my flute. It is a great match. As for info on the Haynes Classic flutes, their Web site has quite a bit of info: http://wmshaynes.com/products/haynes-classic/
Sounds like a very beautiful instrument!

They sell plugs for that purpose. Also, many flutes come with plugs. Ask when you purchase the flute.

Re: purchasing a foot joint
Most likely, if she is a serious player in college she will need another flute. If she is a music major, it is very possible that a Gemeinhardt will not be suitable for what will be expected of her. This is not to criticize the Gemeinhardt, which should be fine for high school. Sadly, Gemeinhardt fl...

Re: Altus Flutes
Thanks fluteguy18. I think I met Liz last year, but I couldn't remember. It has been a while. Thanks for the info. I am asking for a student. I like that they are handmade. I just wondered about serviceability and distribution. I have someone here that I have purchased from before, but for reasons t...

Does anyone out there play an Altus? If so, what have your experiences with the company been like? Service? Sales?
Also, any opinions on Altus flutes in general? Design? Reliability?

Buying online does not subject you to sales tax. It is the sellers responsibility to pay taxes on items sold (the one making the money). Some sellers charge sales tax while others do not. Individuals selling do not have to charge a sales tax, businesses do. Buy away!

Re: Can you achieve the same level as a child, being an adul
I have known some amazing players who didn't start until college. It takes a lot of work, but you can advance very quickly with the right teacher and set goals for yourself to stay on track. I have taught several adult beginners over the years. The pitfalls usually happen when life gets busy (having...

I agree. I can pick up a new one locally for $1,200. You may want to try a bit lower if you really want to sell.

Re: Repadding a bass flute
There is a LOT more to replacing pads than just screwing them in. They need to be fitted, leveled, clamped, etc. in order to get a good fit. It is best to leave this up to a trained tech who spends a great deal of time learning how to do it properly.

Re: Selling Price for a Pearl Piccolo PFP-105E
I just paid $850 for a new one from my local retailer of choice, but keep in mind that I get a substantial discount for my program. With that said, I would not pay more than $500 for a used one in playing condition when I can get a new one for this price. I tried to find a used one and was unsuccess...

Re: Cheap chines alto flutes on Ebay - any good?
My experiences (and curiosity) in this ended up with a flute that played well for about a month. The keys bend very easily (even when it is in the case) and it is impossible to keep adjusted. Too bad since it really does have a nice tone. It is now in my junk pile.

Re: New flute (cibali)
One of the reasons sellers of these (and other) flutes have good feedback is that in many cases, the initial reaction is a nice sounding, inexpensive instrument. The problems usually start to show up later on (after a few months).

Re: C# Trill Key?
The only issue I have seen with a C# trill is that it is something else that can leak (often bent easily) even on the highest end flutes. I have several colleagues who have had this problem. But then again, I am pretty old school on this stuff.
