Excess Saliva
I have a real problem right now, and I don't know what to do. Most of the dental issues expressed here have to do with braces. I have a special place in my heart for anyone having trouble playing the flute after they get them, but I have a different problem: New dentures. Ugh. ______________ I'm edi...

Re: Thanks
Yes, jazzyema, I didn't want the character to describe playing the flute as "I go into a magical world" like you said. I'd rather talk about the things happening to his body. Like, heart rate, tinglings, numbness, things like that. Paranoid Moment #367: I'm sure glad I used the word "nirvana," else...

You have a point there. As I'm playing in college, not as part of a job, I'm not sure if that law applies. However, that page might help out. Still, I'm fairly sure that they'll at least require me to get more invisible ones. Bright blue ear plugs that have a blue string going from one plug to the ...

I bought some green NNR 30/SNR 84 earplugs and it is a lot easier on my hears to stand the higher notes than an ordinary bundle of tissue paper. I agree with Stargle. I doubt my band director will let me use them in the concert. Maybe she will at least let me where one in my right ear since the way...

While this is good stuff, I doubt I’ll be allowed to wear them at a concert – or even a rehearsal. Guess I’ll have to ask... Stargle, I was very proud of you and Band Geek when I read your posts this morning. Regarding this last comment you made: Perhaps (if you are faced with opposition) you can s...

I admit it. Im cheap. I took a piece of tissue paper, bundled it into a ball and stuck it in my ears. Works very good. It isnt as loud but you can still hear the sound. Band Geek, friend, I'd like to ask you to reconsider this method. I have no doubt that tissue paper reduces the decibel level to a...

Re: Learning to play Flute
I have so much respect and admiration for musicians. All of you make something beautiful and precious. I hope you realize this. freethephoenix: I hope you realize, and I'm sure you do, the magnificence of writing talent. I also can't help but wonder what latent musical ability you may uncover in th...

Ditto, Ashurii. I've searched, only to come up with the same conclusion. Bev, I'm truly sorry that you're unable to benefit from the online lessons here. If you are ever in a position to get a high speed connection, you won't regret having done so. I switched to cable from dial up about three years ...

Re: The dreaded Turn-around
Hello! I am new to this website, but not new to flute. Welcome, Wonderflute. I'm glad you found us. I am new to the flute, and am not an accomplished musician, so I'm looking forward to learning from you. I've been here since around December of '04, and I've met some great people. Someone will come...

I'm from the middle of nowhere Mississippi. Perfect! :D I'm stuck up in the house practicing while all the other kids are riding 4-wheelers and horses. WELL, I better get into Lion's band next year!! :D Oh dear. It sounds like you're not enjoying your summer at all. Sorry! "Are you suggesting cocon...
