Best Flute Forward

Hello gang! It’s been a while since I’ve put anything in here and I’m not sure if any of you will take the time to respond, but I will try to pose the question and see what happens. If you look back on my information you’ll discover that I started playing the flute at 62 years of age in 2018. I have...

Re: Long Time Musician but New to the Flute

I was 62 when I started with the flute, and I have a background very similar to yours in guitar, and a variety of other instruments. Let’s face it, we are in the fourth quarter of our lives and time is really of the essence now. You can’t shortcut practice so as long as you’re playing every day and ...

When Is It “Time?”

OK gang, I am a year plus into learning the flute and the reports I’m getting back are good ones. I have moved up to a modestly priced, yet better, flute about six months ago, and I’ve had my eye on perhaps a Q2 from Haynes. I know it’s subjective and I realize it has a lot to do with when you can a...

Re: When Should I Move On?

Wearing out your flute? I presume that all pads (for example) are replaceable. Wear WHAT out? Springs can be replaced. If the repair Tech charges a couple of thousand dollars for their work, then I suppose you might as well replace it, but my wife’s hand-made flute had a complete overhaul last year ...

Re: My new flute chose me

As a beginner (rookie) I can’t even BEGIN to be able to appreciate all the nuances that go into the various models you offered up! I’m sure you are flute-speaking in a way that accomplished flutists fully understand; but ya left ME in the dust!! LOL I have listened to countless video comparisons bet...

Rubber Plugs Sticky?

Are the rubber plugs in open-hole flutes, a bit “sticky” feeling, slowing down finger movement?

Flute Hold Plugs

The jury is still out, on whether or not I will go with an open hole or closed hole flute, when I buy my next one. I’m not sure I want the challenge of having to deal with the issue of the open holes. At least not yet. I’ve seen the flutes in the store that have the rubber plugs for the open holes, ...

When Should I Move On?

The refurbished Armstrong flute I bought, from a reputable person and a reputable woodwind shop. It plays well, and has been praised by my flute Instructor. There’s nothing wrong with my student flute. That said, I stopped by a music store the other day, to have some fun looking at “new” flutes. I p...

Re: LIFE SUCKS

No matter what, stay with your passion. You may not always get “top dog” placement, but as long as you’re happy and enjoying what you’re doing, that’s what matters. There really isn’t any point in doing anything in your life that doesn’t bring you bliss, except for those things that you HAVE to do, ...

Re: Starting At 62!!

Phineas: Back in 1998 I think it was, I bought my first house, and I remember asking a friend of mine what I should do, in terms of prioritizing things at the house would need. His advice, was much like yours, when he said, “just live in it!” I snickered when I read your advice, because of that memo...

As a rookie, I’m learning new things every day. That’s just the way life goes, right?! I could point you in the direction of videos on YouTube that I’m putting in to my account periodically, to show how I’m progressing. However this posting in the forum is not about that. Something that you all prob...

Re: newbie here

At 62, my first transverse flute ended up being an Armstrong, Student C, from a local guy who had a woodwind business, who gave me a great deal! I agree with one of the first topic responders, who suggested Yamaha.” Ad a guitar player of over 50 years, and a variety of other instruments......it seem...
