easy piccolo

Hello all. The flute is going very well and I would like to expand to the piccolo as that was one of my goals. I have been playing on a Jupiter Carnegie series flute and found that it has a nice forgiving embouchure hole, moreso than my Yamaha 200 series. Does anyone know of a picc with a forgiving ...

couple of Q's

A couple of questions please; When I play my Yamaha 24N, it has a more "airy" tone to it (in search for a better word), and when I play my duaghters Jupiter Carnegie XL, it has a more direct solid tone to it. Is it in the build of the flute that gives them these different characteristics? Does an ai...

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was referring to the baroque flutes that I have seen thus far. I don't recall seeing a lip plate on them. I didn't think that the modern, Boehm style wooden flutes would, of course, be more modernized. Yeah, I'm still hooked on those early simple flutes:)

lip plate

Maybe a silly question, but . . . I notice that some flutes come with a lip plate and some do not (I'm thinking the latter more wooden flutes?). What exactly is the purpose of the lip plate? Is one easier to play than the other (with or without)?

I love 6/8 time. Yes, it is widely used in Irish music but also widely used in Baroque music. It was probably the most popular dance used back then. Think the counting as a triplet pattern similar to 2/4 time, with the dominant beat on 1 and 4. i.e. 123, 456

Just to add, being new to the flute world and all; I have played many violins that are made in China to play, and are built better, than some of those made in America. I would not knock any instrument just because it is made overseas. As long as the quality control is being used, you will get a qual...

Yes, I'm still experimenting with the Rockstro grip. I am finding that by supporting the flute more with my chin and left hand first finger, using it as a "shelf", that I am needing my right hand thumb less to hold. Some notes I can remove my right thumb all together relieveing any tension that has ...

Re: Yamaha flutes

i heard the yamaha 200/300 series are made in Indonesia and not worth buying. is this true? I would say that it depends on the level it is being played at. Yamaha 200 series makes very nice student level flutes amd are much recommended. I've read the 300 series are pretty much the same as the 200 s...

Welcome to the forum and to the flute! I used to be the newest newbie but now you are:) (tag, you're it!!). I'm very new to the flute as well and just started taking lessons at 41. I play many other various instruments too but have always wanted to learn the flute. Again, welcome.

I've been a fan of Ian Anderson for some time (not to show my age too much). I stumbled across a flute solo of his on You Tube that is just amazing. Alot of show off stuff but still pretty cool just the same.

Hi bfloyd, It was actually my left thumb I injured, sorry, I made a mistake there. I was using the tip instead of lower down because I found it uncomfortable with the key pressing on the side of my thumb. I can't turn my thumb around enough so it opposes the forefinger, so I have to use the side of...
