If you're in band in school or have a private teacher, try asking the instructor. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

It's odd to me that you have to progress one at a time. We can go right for first chair, and if we win, the rest of the section gets bumped down one. If they don't like it, then they can challenge for their spots back. Of course, in my section, there are only two of us and one part, so it doesn't ma...

Maybe once you get it played perfectly off the sheet, record it on a tape or something and listen to it, too, just your part, so you know it by ear and mouth and finger. And play with it, too, so your brain knows what's coming and puts your fingers there. That's kind of what I do when I need to memo...

I wouldn't worry about the vibrato, since you won't hear it on-field anyway. You could try the old trick of "I'm not going to play it for you, you figure it out first" so they don't have to hear you play. It makes them responsible for knowing the rhythms on their own. (You only have 19 flutes? Weird...

There are several topics about this all over the boards. Do a search, but in summary, they all say to just try a bunch until you find one right for you because no flute works for everyone.

My friend Olivia, who plays sax, needed it for jazz. She's the one that introduced it to me. We then spent many days of marching band trying to actually do it with the instruments in our mouths. It's much harder to roll your tongue with something in your mouth.

I don't care what crap people say about them, I have a Gemeinhardt M2SP and I love it, ok??? It's a little flat sometimes, but a little rolling fixes it! (Maybe it's because it's an older one. I mean it's older than me. Perhaps it is the newer Gemeinhardts that generate all these complaints...) {edi...

But I need some help with the cleaning thing I just got a cleaning rod, and is it OK to just put an old sock on it, like some of the flutes in Band do and I've been doing with a borrowed cleaning rod, or should I get a cloth? If a cloth, what kind and do I need to get it at a music store? What's the...

Know how that works! I'm from Fowlerville, MI and when people ask i always have to say "next to Howell" or "two towns over from Bighton" or "third town over from Okemos" because no one knows us. except for as the place where that girl was shot at the Sunoco.

How could you forget how to read music? It's like forgetting to read, period! Sorry, anyway, I'm sure if you google for "reading music" or how to or something, it will pop up. What exactly is the problem, did you forget what a quarter note, etc. look like, or do you not know what a line/space of the...
