I really wanted to play the piccolo, but learning the flute was the only obstacle in my way so I learned the flute and graduated to the picc.

Its not really a struggle, but currently Im focusing on adding tone color to my sound. Also, Im struggling on playing my music an octave higher just so learning the 3rd and 4th octave fingerings become more natural like the 1st and 2nd.

It could be just the flute. School rental/storage instruments aren't exactly played every single day and kept in shape as well as a flute that is used every day.

I practice anywhere from 1-3 hours. Not all of it is on the flute though... sometimes I switch to other instruments and play different music.

Ive always been 1st or 2nd chair but now that I am switching to Clarinet, I have no idea where I will fall. Im pretty sure that with a lot of practicing, I will at least be in the first row.

Leaving out of the case for long periods of time is very hazardous to the flute. I dont think that leaving the flute out of its case will do anything to get the smell away. I have no idea how you could get rid of the smell. It might be built up mold as it is a used flute. You could probably take it ...

Colored instruments are the kind of instruments I hate the most! Colored instruments are great for show, but they would last about 3 days of playing. An $8.00 piccolo? Youve got to be kidding me, I dont know if cheap little recorders cost that little. Even for fun, you would be wasting your time. It...

I was told the exact same information in another thread I started. What you have to do is make your lips tighter, and blow faster. If you want a more in-depth description, look for a thread called "Blue Ridge Overture"

Sorry about that. I didnt mean A as in A right about the bar line. I meant the really really high A. Now, I dont have any problems because I got a new piccolo. It turns out the one that I got couldnt even get past high high B.

I played a friends Yamaha, it still sounded kind of airy. Im guessing I need to make my lips more circular.

My band director hasnt told me that Im standing out in the really high parts. Today, we rehersed and my friend forgot her flute and picc. So I let her borrow my picc (yes I know how nasty that is). When she played, I could barely hear her, and I know she can play. So right now, I dont think Im stand...
