You'll just have to practice it constantly. When I first learned it 3 years ago, I was told to play using alternate Bb (both of them) constantly for about 2 weeks until my fingers got used to it. I use them contantly in band class (we generally play in flat keys in school) and because of using them ...

I would say that you might want to go for a gold-plated headjoint. A lot of silver-plated still have some nickel in them. Although I've never known nickel to create a rash like that. It just turns my neck green sometimes ( :P). But definitely go to a doctor and check it out. It could be a couple for...

Venus Piccolo?
Just for fun, I was looking at some piccolos on ebay. In my browsing, I found some piccolos in fun colors- all of the colored ones were by the brandname Venus. I've never heard of the brandname before. So I was wondering a couple things: 1. If, simply for playing around at home, a colored piccolo is...

This year I marched with a plastic picc. I alternated between two different ones: A plastic one with a silver headjoint for competitions, but for normal Friday night football games, I normally used the one with both the body and headjoint plastic. I would strongly recommend using a plastic one for m...

The cheap little recorder that I got was $3.50. It was also converted from chinese money. And if it's shipping from China, the shipping and handling will pay for the low cost for the instrument. Colored piccolos for show... I actually thought about using them and doing some sort of display deal with...

Colored Piccolos?
I was looking on ebay at some piccolos when I came across a black piccolo with gold plated keys. It was gorgeous! $8.71 and unknown shipping and handling. I scrolled down a bit further and discovered a purple piccolo. Purple? As I continued scrolling down, I found a blue one, orange, green, red, and...

Re: Gemeinhardt or Pearl?
I'm in 9th grade and I started private lessons this year, and I don't know what kind of new flute to get. When I talked to one person in my band class (she's second chair) she said she likes Gemeinhardt. But when I talked to my other friend, who takes lessons with the same person I do, she said she...

Re: What school?
You know, none of us know where anyone is from on this forum. So then, high schoolers should post the school they flute for and the state naturally and what ensembles they participate in. I'll start. Suzanne Randolph High School, New Jersey Marching Band, Wind Ensemble (5th chair) Northside High Sc...

Re: A Solo Question
Um... You could go with something classical, but I personally wouldn't for THIS event. Um... My favorite composer lately has been Edelson. He has some nice solos and they're fun to play. Such things as "Jellyroll Jam" and "Puppet Parade." He does have a few that are harder than Puppet Parade, but th...

Personal favs, people tend to stick to what they like. I would also suggest the Trevor Wye, it help me with tone quality and was easy enough to skim to understand what the colors where ment to be. That and a few fun tunes to help along the way. ;) Other wise, easy things for begginers. Songs like '...
