I love the Bach Sonatas as well. They definitely clean the ears. But furthermore, I think they teach you how to be a musician. For Bach to be expressive and beautiful you must bring out the harmony and melodic contour. It's so easy to glaze over those things in other literature. If you take the time to really study Bach, you learn all of the techniques you need to be a really fine player.
But just because you have learned them doesn't mean you're finished with them! As I have always said (but not on here I have realized...)
Mozart was a devious, DEVIOUS man. I think he learned his tricks from Bach.
