Rhonda Larson music

Has anyone learned/played any of Rhonda Larson's flute music? I just found someone on youtube playing "Movin' On", and it sounds really cool. I just wondered how advanced the actual music is or if anyone had anything else to say about it.

I personally love to play her music (and other living composers). As for how hard it is, several of my high school age students have played Movin' On. It is pretty repetitive, but it changes keys throughout. I like to use this piece to help students understand keys and modulation. Most of their lesson books cover this stuff, but there is nothing like a great piece of music to help a student see it in action.

Check out Sweet Simplicity. It is a really great accompanied piece, though my all time favorite to play is Lament. I had a chance to play Lament for her a few years back in a lesson. She made some corrections on my music

Another great living composer/flutist is Katherin Hoover. Her music is somewhat challenging and has some great ethnic sounds. Very fun to play!

I, too, love Rhonda Larson's music. She is a very talented woman. Check out "The Boatman" as well; it is very easy technically, but there is a lot that can be done with it musically. It's a beautiful piece that pairs up nicely with most of her other works (like Sweet Simplicity). Ms. Larson also encourages players of her music to experiment with different instrumentations as well as different types of flutes (e.g., wood, etc.). Her music is quite versatile and easy to make your own, which is apparently something she really wants players of her compositions to do.
