Re-skinning pads
Re-skinning my pads with these latex jimmies just isn't happening; anybody help a brother out and tell me where I can find some sheepskins?

Have you tried a farm?
Seriously though, pads are NOT covered with sheepskin. You can get proper supplies for recovering pads from the J.L. Smith website. You can find them with a Google search.

Bladder skin from animals is mostly whats used, theres also a small trend towards fish bladder as its finer, dont forget to put two layers on

What about in a pinch? Will Reynolds's/Seran clingwrap work?
Re: Re-skinning pads
Well they don't call it "clingwrap" for nothing...ghostNote wrote:What about in a pinch? Will Reynolds's/Seran clingwrap work?

Somebody else was saying pipe-thread tape can hold a flautist over until fish bladders and a visit to the tech.

You're saying the sac which contains all the viscera? Next time I order some fish, tell the cook I'd like to keep that and take home for flute maintenance?

Re: Re-skinning pads
Teflon plumber's tape can be useful for some emergency repairs. It might work OK for a trill key pad because those pads are small. However, on the other pads, most of the teflon plumber's tape is not wide enough to completely cover the pad without a seam and a seam will leak. Cling wrap is probably better to temporarily cover the larger pads. It's also good to temporarily tighten loose headjoints or footjoints.ghostNote wrote:Somebody else was saying pipe-thread tape can hold a flautist over until fish bladders and a visit to the tech.
