piccolo solo

Post by fluteplayer09 »

I am playing piccolo as well as flute in my concert band. I have played piccolo in marching band for the past two years but I have no experience playing in concert band. Two of our band pieces for our upcoming concert have picc solos in them. Do you have any suggestions on playing the solos? I have never had a solo before so I am not used to playing for a lot of people at once.

Also do you have any tips for the high register?

What are the pieces? Someone might know one or two.

The same thing that applies to the flute applies to the piccolo - practice.

I'm not sure although this summer if I can get a piccolo, my band director said he would love for me to march piccolo as well as play concert music. My friend, will however, get first choice of what picc songs she wants because she's first chair and I'm third of Symphonic Band (our middle-level band) so I'm excited nevertheless. I'm just a bit nervous that I'll mess up the part or not be able to switch from flute to picc easily. Any tips for that?

Just practice! When I first started playing picc, I found it hard to switch between the two quickly, but now its not a problem at all.
