Hey there. I'm in the
same boat as you for the chair auditions.. except I've already had mine! I
haven't had that much time to practice so I didn't get 1st chair but I'm in
Symphonic Band so I'm pretty happy about that. I really don't have any tips
for you except don't be nervous... I have a huge problem with that.. I don't
mean to sound concieted but I know that I am a good flute player and I know I am
capable of doing a lot of things. Its just when it comes to memorizing scales
for auditions and having to play in front of my band instructor , I get very
nervous because I know that what I play in front of my band instructor is what
counts.. not how much I practice outside of school because the instructors dont
hear that, they only hear what you do when your with them... So just dont be
nervous hun! What do you have to do for your auditions anyway? We have to
memorize scales, do chramatic, sightreading, and etudes

Yes... i am reading the
best book... The Inner Game of Music.... by Barry Green I am notorious for
defeating myself in the tryout by getting nervous. This book talks about not
letting your mind (Self 1 he calls it) take over by telling you what you have to
do or where you will fail.... Just enjoy it and don't try too hard.... give
yourself permission to mess-up and remember why you love to play.... Good luck!
I will say a prayer for you right now... I know how hard it can be... just
remember that the battle isn't the music... you know that ... the battle is
mental.... if you can pass the mental battle you can do anything!!!!! Act like
you know what you are doing (that will intimidate everyone) be confident! you
really can do it [:sun:]
