At the moment I am working opn pieces from Suite Antique by John Rutter and Mozart Concert in D movement 1, I am around Grade (ABRSM) 7 standard even though I know the Mozart is Grade 8 my teacher gave it to me (don't know whether she realised??!)

Vieri Bottazzini's Curriculum

Post by sakuramimato »

As a sophomore in high school this fall, I feel pressured to accomplish more in my flute playing. I've subscribed to FluteTalk and found an article in the July/August 2004 issue with Vieri Bottazzini on the cover, and his article talks about his start at playing the flute at age 11 and later a deep interest for it at 15. I'm sure a lot of people experience that (I, too, have taken that path).
... he began dabbling with the flute at age 11. Only after his 15th birthday did he take a serious interest in the instrument and begin private lessons.
The Italian flute school is heavily influenced by the French approach to flute playing, and taffanel exercises and Moyse Etudes were a majoy portion of my practice sessions.
Bottazzini also suggests that a good one hour on scales and basic technique should be practiced since scales are the basis of all music. (Lots of emphasis on scales in the article.)

Thus, here's Vieri Bottazzini's Curriculum as written in the article. He has compiled this list through his experience as a student, being in orchestras, and teaching students. (Reformatted for easier viewing.)

7th Grade:

Flute Repertoire-B: 1 easy piece.

8th Grade:
Technical Studies: Gariboldi, Complete Scales; Altes, Methode, vol. 2.
Etudes-A: Prill, Etudes, Op. 11, vol. 2; Moyse, 24 Petit Etudes Moldiques; Kohler, 20 Etudes, Op. 93, vol. 2.
Etudes-B: Hughes, La Scuola del Flauto, Op. 51, vols. 1 & 2; Demersemann, 50 Etudes melod., Op. 4, vol. 1; Andersen, 24 Etudes, Op. 21.
Flute and Piano-A: Marcello, 12 Sonatas, Op. 2; Clementi, Sonatas, Op. 2 #1; Friedrich the Great, Sonatas in G and B Minor; Gretchaninoff, Deux Miniatures; Beethoven 6 Easy Pieces, #4-6; Field, Nocturne.
Flute and Orchestra-B: Salieri, Concertino da camera.

Sorry, I'll keep adding more. The list goes all the way to college senior.

system so I''m just curious about the pieces people play![/quote]
