Hi, I have a very brief question. I am just beginning out on
the flute, I know this might seem a very basic question but could someone please
tell me, on the embrochure hole, where am I trying to blow the air. Is it over
the top or right inside, I haven''t figured that out yet, thus I havent gotten
any further. I have bout some books but they dont tell me exaclty where to blow
it. If you could help me, that would be greatly appreciated. ~Daydreamergrl20

Generally, you want to split your air.. so that half of it
blows over the hole and half of it goes into the hole. Your bottom lip should
just barely cover a little bit of the back edge of the hole. You can experiment
with your placement to get the best sound. Eventually, you can vary the way your
airstream goes, so that more or less of it is directed into the hole, but to
start just think about splitting it in half. Getting a good embouchure is
practically life-long work! Hope that helps..

Try making sound just with the head joint (don't assemble the
flute). Your going to blow sort of it it but at the sametime across it-like
blowing into a soda bottle to make noise. Practice with the head joint to get
comfortable making sound before using the whole flute. Hope I helped a
little.
