Scale books?

Post by sakuramimato »

I'm looking for a scale book so that I can practice for wind ensemble auditions after marching season ends.. Preferrably with all..

- majors
- minors
- blues
- jazz
- modes

Or just a scale book with every scale possible. :)
Thank you!

You can download pretty much any scale you need from the internet. Just use Google (or your preferred search engine), and see what comes up! There are also a number of books focusing on scales offered by Fluteworld and others, so take a look there. I like the Wye book "Breathing and Scales", but I'm not positive that it has everything you want in it.

Yeah, I like the Wye books a lot. Especially his Omnibus edition, but that is just because I am too lazy to carry all of the individual ones.

Do you have Taffanel & Gaubert 17 daily exercises or the Trevor Wye Complete Daily Exercises books? They contain at least variations of all those you're looking for except the jazz stuff. I found a book once with a lot of jazz scale material, called Vital Elements for the Jazz Flutist, by Jordon Ruwe. This is about $15, and is published by Hal Leonard. I would recommend the Wye Daily Exercises, as he's compiled invaluable excerpted material from all sorts of expensive books, all into one, for about $25. :D
