An extension of 3/4 of an inch ... that would decrease the pitch of low C by a quarter tone! All other pitches would go down too, but not in the same proportion. The worst would be the open C# which would sound (nearly) as open C.

A 3 mm extension should be just enough to lower the pitch from A=442 to A=440.
