minor scales?

Post by AG950Flute »

my piano teacher used to make me write out the order of
all my major and minor scales 3-4 times a week, and it really helped. i guess
it's just a matter of memorizing them and how to figure out which minor scales
relate back to the major scales. here are some suggestions. to find what the
relative minor scale is of a major key you go down 3 half steps. for example
from c major: 1st half step: c-b, 2nd half step b-b flat, 3rd half step b
flat-a. (i used to always forget when i was figuring out the minor scales if i
went up or down three half steps, a good way to remember that you always go
down, is that a miner has to go underground, cheesy i know, but it works) you
can use the 3 half approach from any major key. if you're having difficulty
figuring them out, let me know, or if you want to double check them with me,
that's fine too. there are 3 melodic scales. natural, harmonic, and melodic.
for an explanation, well, as damjan said (and thanks for the compliment) you can
see one of my previous postings. but please, feel free to ask any questions
about my explanations!! good luck!
