Starting Flute again

Post by Skippy »

Hi all,

just a quick intro - I'm Hayley otherwise known as Skippy, I'm from Australia and well, i play flute.

I've only recently started playing flute again, in the last couple months and I've picked it up and I've forgotten EVERYTHING! I remember one song, that's about it, it's the first one I ever played, it's just like a little door bell tune.

Seeing as I've forgotten everything, where should I start? I have no idea! I also don't have any books, because I've pretty much taught myself, I've been told that I've got a really good sound, breath control and such is no problem etc, it's just I've forgot how to read music and fingering etc.

It'd be great for some help~

If you can find a teacher, you will be much better off, but if that is out of the question, you should look into some books to help you out.

Trevor Wye books are good for beginners. Also, the ban dseries Essential elements covers basically everything, including reading the music. It is geared toward band, but I have used it on a few occasions because it covers so much.

Good luck and welcome!

yeah - a teacher is out of the question.

I'll go and check out my local music store and see if they have any of the books you mentioned! Thanks for the help!

Let's hope they have something considering it's mainly a drums/guitar shop! If not I'll yellow page others....lol.

Thanks for the Welcome!

Also try Flute World online (fluteworld.com). You should be able to get books there if not locally. Good luck!

And, if for some reason you can't [or won't] buy anything online, your local music store should be able to order the book(s) for you.
