Back to practise

Post by zummerzet_lou »

Have decided that as my children are a little older (now 5 and 3), I can resume my flute playing.

I took my grade 7 when I was 7 months pregnant with my eldest, and my goal was to do grade 8.

So, nearly 5 years later, and everything is a little rusty so where do I start?

Guessing scales, and tone should be my primary focus? anything else?

Thanks,

Lucy

Grades are music exams .... I did mine with the associated board of music.

Start at grade 1, and go upto grade 8. Then there are a couple more after that, but one is a diploma, and not sure what the final one is.

For each grade you get tested on scales, sight reading, you perfrom 2 accompanied pieces and one unaccompanied and finally some aural stuff (which I am mega crap at)

Is this approximating the high school/college level of performance and learning? Is it in the US at all (haven't heard of it here, but I know I don't always keep up on what's going on), or is this a European system? Thanks for the info.
