Does anyone have any experience putting a pickup in a
flute? If so, do you have any suggestions (ie. brand names, is it bad for the
flute, does it effect sound quality, etc.)? Thanks..

Flute is mic'd right above the lip-plate because that
is where the sound comes out. It is either a mic separate from the flute or the
one that attaches to where the crown is and bends from the outside to that
position.

Most mics or flute pickups do color the sound to some
degree-generally make it brighter. I have an AMT flute mic system that uses 2
mics - one by the head and the other by the right hand- it picks up the sound
much more evenly than a single mic or pickup does and does not seem to color the
sound much. However, it does not seem to have as much gain as some mics do and
so it is hard to use w/o getting feedback when the stage volume is extremely
high. That being said, I am extremely happy with this mic system and have had
many compliments from soundmen that I have worked with.

I was just looking into the AMT mics the other day
and I am seriously thinking into getting one. They came up with a new mic (Z7 -
hardwired or Roam-3 - wireless), that is a single mic and is better for a
"louder" band (jazz, latin, etc.). The one that you have looks GREAT, especially
for a classical setting. It would be nice to have both. Thanks for the info.
