No practice time!

Post by dancingflutist3000 »

I feel as if there just isn''t enough time in my day to get
all my practicing in! I wake up at 6:30 (tried the early thing, it just ain''t
working out for me);school starts at 8:00 and ends at 3:00. Get home at 3:30,
have a snack till 3:45. Then homework is done at about 5:00-6:00. I exercise for
any hour after that. By 6:00 it''s dark out so I don''t want to practice for
fear of waking up neighbors who might go to sleep when it gets dark. Should I
just practice when it gets dark anyway? When do I find the time?

In your situation, I'd practice when it got dark. I don't
know where you live or any restriction you might have but in my neighborhood we
have a noise ordinance. No loud noise after 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. I don't
usually play after 9pm and I won't let my son practice his drums after 8 pm.
Only because he won't use his silencer pads and they are real loud. The flute
is actually much quieter. If your in a house, your flute probally can't be
heard outside anyway with the windows & doors shut. If your in an apartment,
maybe stop playing after 8pm just to be nice. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion! I don't live in an apartment and
we don't have any restrictions that I know of and I wouldn't need to practice
more than a half hour to an hour or so, though I have to be practicing more on
the weekends for my solo and ensemble contest in February.

from my own personally experience, my neighbors around where my
parents live love having me practice. lol, one summer a whole family was sitting
outside listening to me practice. i used to live in an apartment complex and my
upstairs neighbors didn't mind much either i sometimes even got compliments. i
live in a two-family house now and have some limitations to practice times but
the people upstairs love it anyway when i do practice. so i think practicing
when it gets dark, especially since it's really early nowadays, is fine. i'm
like most others, just think about those around you and don't practice in the
wee hours of the night.

I think worrying about people sleeping at 6 PM is a bit
obsessive. You are either way to nice or trying to avoid practice. Besides in no
time you will sound so good you neighbors will ask you to open your windows so
you can play them to sleep.[]

Do you have neighbors that you know are sleeping that early in
the evening ? I would think that even if they are sleeping that playing flute
would not exactly be like playing the drums or something loud. If you are really
worried about bothering your neighbors maybe you could do your practicing before
you do your homework ? Fluter

I don't think practicing after 6:00 should be a problem. I
wouldn't get any practicing done if I didn't practice in the evening. My
daughters best practice time is actually after that time until about 8:30 p.m
