Hello! I just got a flute, and when I blow in the hole
that you blow in to make a sound it doesn''t make any sound. It just sounds
like you''re blowing in the air. Why is that? How do I make a sound? If anyone
can help me on this, please reply to this. I will really apprecitate it. Thanks!
Sincerely, Jessica S.

Help on flute playing....
Jessica, It is not very professional to try to
explain this only in words because there is a danger you might misunderstand it.
Ideally, you should either find a flute player to show you in person or use our
video lessons that demonstrate it in great detail (there is about 20 min of
video material just to the point of producing a tone). The reason for this is
that you must be careful not to learn incorrectly because it is harder to fix it
later. In case you still want to go on your own, here are a few words: Try
putting together a tight smile, making the opening between your lips pretty
small. Then try blowing more into the flute. You also need to make sure that the
lip-plate hole is in the middle of your lips (horizontally) and that the
lip-plate lies comfortably under your lower lip, with the hole touching the
lower lip approximately at the middle (vertically). Try blowing only at the
headjoint at first - this way you only have to think about producing the sound
and not about your fingers. Good luck.
