Dear Puppie, the video lessons on the site would
help you greatly, because they focus on these basics of tone production and you
can see what you are supposed to do, instead of trying to comprehend it.
However, here a few hints: C1 is a hard note to play, since the air has to
travel through the entire flute. For that reason you have to provide a lot of
air and create the pressure that the flute will not naturally create for this
note. Your lips need to be very tight and air stream needs to be strong. Blow
more into the flute. Don't be discouraged about this note, it takes a bit of
practice. C3, on the other hand, needs less pressure and resistance than C2. You
need to relax your lips more. By doing that, your lips will come closer to the
outer wall of the lip-plate (that is where you are aiming your air). Still blow
into the flute. Practice in fron of the mirror - if you see a foggy formation on
the outside of the lip-plate, you are blowing to much accross the flute. These
things take practice, but important is, as you play lower and lower notes, your
lips become tighter. As you go up, you lips relax more and more. Good luck.

I always found that when having alot of trouble
hitting C3 you may try pulling the tounge off the back of the throat to allow
some of the pressure into the sinuses and even out the nose. But dont actually
BREATHE out your nose, just open that area to allow a decreased pressure. But
overall you just want a gentler, somewhat fuller airstream to the mouthpiece.
Good luck![]
