Jealous?

When I have a flute or piccolo solo, people get jealous, so they
start laughing each time I make a mistake. What should I do?

Please try not to let this affect you .... it is just a sign of
immaturity and perhaps some jelously thrown in. In the orchestra that I play in
(has a range of ages from about 10 to 50), everyone is very supportive, and we
all have nothing but admiration for the people that play the solos - even if
they fluff a couple of notes. Try not to let these people affect you - enjoy
your solos and your playing.

Yes! I love Children's March! My band will hopefully play it
again this year. I played it my sophomore year and I loved it. It has a fun
melody and neat to listen to. Hope you like it too![]

OMG, my band played that song a while ago, I loved it!!! I
wish I could get a hold of the music to it. Good luck with the solos, I know how
you feel, just keep practicing and as you get better, maybe they'll realize
that they need to grow up and get a life! You deserve the solos you got because
you're good and even if you mess up, wich I should know about, I totally
screwed up my picc solo last year, it's ok! My director, who can be a little
harsh sometimes, didn't really mind and no one else noticed until I pointed it
out. You'll do wonderfully! Best of luck!! -Abby

Dont let it bug you. I'm just learning to play the flute and
i make ALOT of mistakes and ppl always laff at me(not to mention when i do a
solo my face goes beat read and when i make a mistake my face gets redder). Just
ignore them if u let them show u care they will keep doing it.

Hi :) I'm the solo flautist in our school band too and I know
what you mean, not so much with the laughing and stuff but nerves used to come
over me heaps, causing me to stuff bits up and sound shakey. I just kept doing
it and I found strangely enough once I sat my grade 4 exam my nerves just went.
Anyway its probably just jealousy and soon enough if they see u arent worried
about it they're going to get bored of it, so just keep concentrating and good
luck![:)]
