Intonation

in all of my last tests, i failed my intonation section. how
can i improve this?

I would recommend that you buy a chromatic tuner (you can
get one for around $20). It will show you when you are sharp and when you are
flat so that you can know how to adjust your pitch and play in tune better. You
just have to listen carefully so that you will train your ear to know the
difference in intonation. Good luck.

Thanks. I had one, but it seems to have grown legs. I'll

When you find your tuner, the best way to practice with it
is to first get "in tune," then play scales or something else that you know by
heart. But don't look at the tuner. Periodically, stay on one note and check
the tuner to see where you are. This will give you an accurate picture of your
personal intonation. You can make note of certain notes that are particularly
troublesome for you. After awhile, you will start to become conscious of these
notes every time you play and automatically correct them. Of course, if you ever
get a new flute you will have to do this all over again [:)] Good luck!

best way to clear up tone is to do these things:

1. open your teeth wider when you play
2. play with hot air not cold, like when you warm your hands from cold air
3. make sure you are splitting the air evenly, half must go over the top and half must down. you will have to move your chin in and out to find the 'sweet spot'
4. use the "poo" articulation to create softer sounds
5. try these on a 4th line d, this seems to be the easiest note and easy to make good sound on..then go from there
