Jaw Pain

Post by PiNkShOeS7487 »

I find that i sometimes have a pain in my jaw, a feeling that it is very
tense. I was thinking that it might be from playing the flute so much and was
wondering is any of you have experienced this jaw pain. If so, have you found
anything that helps it? Aaren S.

Pain in your jaw? Are you jamming your flute into your chin?
If you are, stop. It should rest comfortably. Do you have a pronounced jaw bone
that makes your chin stick out more than other people?

Yeah i had jaw pain while i played i had to give up turned out
it was tmj. do u clench or grind your teeth and do you have difficulty opening
your mouth wide? Is the pain up by your ears? if so better ask ur dentist, good
luck! it'll probably be nothing but just to let u know, just in case! Hope it
turns out ok [:)]

for how long do you play? my jaw feels like that after 8-hr
rehearsals. that is because it gets tired after about 4 hrs and it has to strain
to keep my mouth in the right embrouchure position. if it starts to feel like
that again, give it a rest and ice it. also, taking ibuprofen is really good to
eliminate mouth pain and swelling.
