Yes, there is such a thing as triple
tounging. My daughter uses Tuh Kuh Tuh (T K T).I think I have read about other
sounds being used also but I don't remember what they are. I myself am not even
close to being able to do it LOL Kim

No, it is really about how you group
the sounds. For example when you are double tounging you would say Tuh Kuh or T
K and so on. If you are triple tounging you would be saying Tuh Kuh Tuh or T K T

Triple tonguing is used when there are
groups of 3, 6, 9, etc. notes. I usually use (T-K-T) (K-T-K) rather than (T-K-T)
(T-K-T), but it's completely individual.
Cheers,
Emily

I had a teacher once who taught
beginners to start triple tounging with T-T-K instead of the more "traditional"
T-K-T. I thought that moving the "K" around was really good practice and it
makes your triple-tounging a lot more versatile. [:p]
Haha, this one is my favorite:

confronted with fast triplet passages. i vary my tonguing syllables depending on
the nature of the passage. usually, though, i use ta-ka-ta.

i've been waiting for somebody to
ask!!!!!!! yes, triplet touguing is very possible. i do it in my fun time. i
learned it from a book by t-k-t-t-k-t. i had to use it in the bolero/little
drummer boy mix. havent done quadruple touguing...but wouldnt it be double
touguing in twos? for double, my band teacher suggests saying "here KiTTy KiTTy
KiTTy" or "kitty cat"...lol.

yeah, Tu-ka-tu // ka-tu-ka Well, this
will work...sorta. The thing with tu-ka is that it is a really hard and sharp
tounging. This is ok for stacato, but it seams like it is forced. You should use
du-gu-du // gu-du-gu. Make sure that you can start any passage on the "du" or
the "gu". This way if you have a series of triplets, starting with a rest you
can come in where you need to be. There are a few other tips on double and
triple tounging on my site.

I tongued with du-gu and tu-ka and have
been lectured by my uncle that I "tongued too much", meaning that my tonguing
was so strong that it got in the way of musicality. Strong tonguing is
considered the "American" way of tonguing. Tonguing with 'te-keh' (double) or
'ticket-teh' (triple) is a lighter way of tonguing, also considered the French
way of tonguing as it isn't has harsh as the American. Although the tonguing
above are given names, there are different styles of tonguing as there are
different types of playing the flute. Just experiment which type of tonguing you
like best. :) It's really a matter of personal style, but apply the correct
type of tonguing when need be. (Don't us du-gu on legato pieces!)

Your third chair? Is 9th grade middle
school or HS where you live and how many bands do you have? > You should use
du-gu-du // gu-du-gu. I think you need to be able to use both depending on the
piece you are playing. du-gu is slower and less crisp and not used very much by
advanced players. ta ka is more nible a tongue move and much quiker.

9th grade is high school in California.
My school is the newest one in the district, making up a total of four schools
in the district; two of the bands which have outstanding recognition throughout
the west coast America. You might have heard of the Grand Master winner at the
Fiesta Bowl Tournament. The Grand Master winner is a neighbouring school in the
next city, but also in the same district.
