Re: Prokofiev Sonata and Debussy Syrinx
Well, the most important thing is I enjoyed all of your performances.
Here is what I heard.
1. Too much vibrato! It worked out OK, but it would have been cleaner in a lot of places without it. More dynamics to be expressive, less vibrato.
2. Your upper register is a bit thin and kind of airy. But hey, a lot of flute players have that problem. There were a couple of places where you had to play a D4. This is not an easy note to hit on the fly. However, you can make it sound better.
3. In a few places you over blew the lower notes. It did not hurt your performance , but you asked.
4. Intonation. There were a few places that the intonation was out a little. But you corrected it as you were playing.
Basically, what I mentioned are nit picks. You may need some fine tuning, but your playing is on fire! I really enjoyed it. Some classical-critique-guru-god may jump down your case about some of these things. However, recitals are all about you and the audience. You do not have to play perfectly to win over an audience. It is all about your energy. If you FEEL what you are playing, the audience will FEEL you!
Keep practicing, and keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing!
