I audition for regional bands if thats what you mean.
Last year I playes Offenbach Ballet and made second flute fourth chair in
S.E.M.S.B.A.(SouthEast Massachussetts scholastic band association) and this year
I'm playing Allegretto for SouthEast DIstrict auditions(a lot harder) and I
haven't looked at the S.E.M.S.B.A. piece yet. I was the only flute from my
school to make semsba but there were two other trumpets and a bass clarinet who
also made it. I am the only flute trying out for district

I did two competitions outside of my school when I was a
junior and senior in high school. One was a national music educator thing, and
the other was a local orchestra's competition. I didn't win either of them,
but I'm SO happy I did them. It's a completely unique experience to
participate in a competition. You gain so much confidence after doing it, no
matter how you performed. In each one, I knew a couple other people who were
performing and that certainly helped. We shared in each others' agony. [:)]
