I need a good, high school level, Solo piece for contest. Any suggestions? I need one for both flute and pic.

More information? What grade are you in, how long have you played, what are your strengths (tone, rhythm, articulation, etc.) AND weaknesses? For piccolo, my students seem to enjoy some Christensen pieces based loosely on folk-song type themes of different countries--Piccolo Francaise, Piccol O'Reilley, etc. Those two are very accessible, but Piccolo Espagnol is a bit tougher--it even features high C! Isaacson's Fearless Whistler is also fun, but unaccompanied and a little harder to pull off (also requires minimal flutter-tongue). Flute World sells these. For flute, have you played Handel or Telemann sonatas yet, or are you looking for a different style period or greater technical challenge? Telemann fantasies (unaccompanied) are nice, too. Several of the Gary Schocker pieces, while current and modern, are melodic and not technically demanding. :) P.S. Oh, yeah--is your choice limited by a pesky state repertoire list? I live NEAR Ohio, and sometimes have to use their list with some students.

Gary Schocker's "Regrets and Resolutions" is a nice piece that only has a few fairly technical sections. It has both slow and fast sections. My students find it to be a great contest piece. I also like his "Sunrise, Sunset" which is very lyrical. I am a little partial to his work since I have met him on a number of times (and he is my teacher's teacher :) ).
