Latin flute pieces???

Post by nashvilleflute »

I'm looking and I have a couple of flutist friends interested in working on some Latin pieces for flute. The only recital quality piece that I know of is the Piazzolla Histiore du Tango and the etudes that accompany them. There has to be more. Does anyone have any suggestions that are comparable to the Tangos in difficulty/entertainment level? I'd like to learn them for some lessons/recital...thanks...

Well I have not had a look at the Tangos, so I can't compare difficulty, but the Chesky Concerto has a very interesting Latin influence to it, and with some practice should be attainable, despite the fact that it looks terrifying.

I heard a bunch of Christopher Caliendo pieces this summer, all Latin-tinged, great for recitals, and some even with guitar. Good stuff. Sounds pretty hard, too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely check out the Caliendo Tango Andaluz & Caliente...those sound like what I'm looking for...
