Loose Headjoint
Hi...I just purchased a brand new Gemeinhardt flute, and the headjoint moves when I play it. I've never seen a flute with a loose headjoint before. I am wondering if I should just send the flute back, or is there some kind of a fix? Thank you!

If it is brand new and you purchased it locally, then I would take it back. It should be a straight forward fix, or grounds for a replacement.fibrochick wrote:Hi...I just purchased a brand new Gemeinhardt flute, and the headjoint moves when I play it. If you purchased this online, I would take it to a local repair technician first to have it checked out, and get an estimate. If the price is more than you want to pay for the adjustment, contact the place where you purchased it.
I have had headjoints do this before. All of them were able to be adjusted while I waited. I am sure some of the technicians on the board may chime in.

Re: Loose Headjoint
It's an easy fix and should not cost much, but a new flute should come with a headjoint that fits properly. Since you asked if you should "just send the flute back", I assume you bought it online and cannot take it back to a local store. The cost of shipping and insurance could be roughly the same as having a local tech adjust the fit.

I ended up sending it back, and they shipped me another new one. Thanks for your feedback.
