Nervous About Upcoming Performance

Post by notootsieno »

Hello, everyone. I am new here.
I''m in the 8th grade, and I''m in the advanced band at my school. My band
director has asked me to play the "Star Spangled Banner" at a school wrestling
game this Thursday. This is the first time that I''ve ever had to play a full
song in front of a crowd, alone. Does anyone have any suggestions to help calm
my nerves? I know I''ll get very nervous, and my palms will get all sweaty.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Okay :) Just put yourself in the
music and enjoy it... i know, easier said than done right... just try to
concentrate on every single note and dynamic to the extent that your mind
doesn't have a chance to wander and get you off track... it will be fine.... it
is just a mental battle .... just trust yourself to be able to do it and then
give yourself permission to be human... the crowd won't eat you; mistakes are
part of life... give yourself permission to make them... oddly enough, when you
give yourself permission to make mistakes, you won't make as many :) It will be
fine. Try not to worry. In His Grip, Jasmin

I make up rituals that will halp me,
they make no sense....like eating a ton of ice the night before it just makes me
calm every superstition What really does work i play the whole slong half a slow
as it really goes when warming up, it encourages muscle memory

I think there's practically no way
to get around being nervous.. it happens to everyone, including professional
musicians. Just make sure that you are well prepared.. you can also try taking
slow, deep breaths right before your performance. Also, another thing I have
done in the past, and I don't know why this works, but if I DON'T play at all
the day before my performance, I seem to do better. Does this happen to anyone
else?
Cheers,
Emily

Hi! Well I just had a christmas duet
infront of 400 or more people. I was very nervice but I just concintrated and
relaxed, Look at your sheet music and don't look around in the crowd that will
make you more nervice. I know you will be great!! [:p]
