I did it!
I finally had my audition today and I am very happy with my performance. Even though I was very nervous, I didn't miss a note on either song, altho I'm not going to say they were perfect. I did do them well enough to be proud of myself, and the flute professor was very complimentary. I was supposed to play in front of the head of department as well, but something held him up, so it was just the flute instructor; not sure if I have to go back and play for anyone else. Anyway, she said that she would vote for me and will let me know if her word is good enough for me to get in. She also invited me to go with her to her master flute class, and introduced me to the other flute students. I enjoyed her class very much. Now I can't wait for school to get started! I'm so excited!!!! I did it!!!!

Congratulations! Your story reminds me of the old joke:
Rumor is that a pedestrian on Fifty-seventh Street, Manhattan, stopped Jascha Heifetz and inquired, "Could you tell me how to get to Carnegie Hall?" "Yes," said Heifetz. "Practice!"
You can do anything you set your mind to... (if you have the desire and drive)

Re: I did it!
Congrats! Now ... let's get to the real important question ... what kind of backpack you going to get? Maybe one that has a thing to secure your flute case inside the backpack?

I am not really a member of the "backpack" generation - I do have a nice professional briefcase that is made with a space for my flute case on the bottom.

Re: I did it!
It is official now -- I've been accepted into the flute program! The flute professor asked me to come back last week and have a private lesson with her, and then invited me to her Master Class again. After that she told me that she was able to make the final decision and wanted me in the program, so I didn't even have to play for anybody else in the department. We seemed to click really well during the lesson, and just from that first time I've already been able to improve my playing. I'm getting the paperwork from her tomorrow to get everything processed. And the Voc/Rehab people are finally getting going, so the funding should be taken care of too. I'm so excited -- I'm really going to be going back to school in the fall!!!!! I wanted to start in the summer, but no music courses are offered. So ... I bought an Intro to Music Theory book and am going to study that during the summer.
