Quintessential Flute Recordings

Does anybody have some flute recordings that are a "must-have" for any serious flute player? I'm very much an auditory learner and listening to recordings helps my playing so much.
Haha, this one is my favorite:

My absolute favorite CD is James Galway's "The French Recital." It is all the great French pieces that we love to play, played by the master! It's beautiful, I'm absolutely in awe of Galway's renditions of these pieces.
Cheers,
Emily

i was in canada earlier this summer and had a chance to see and hear emmanuel pahud play everyday for a week. he instantly became my favorite flute player, he's one of the most versatile flutists i have ever heard.
i highly recommend any of his recordings, his bach CD is great and he plays the partita beautifully. also his recording of the khachaturian and ibert concertos (both on the same CD) are incredible and inspirational. i have not heard his recordings of his mozart concertos yet, but the teacher i will be studying with next year, said they are great and are wonderful stylistically. he has over a dozen recordings out, any you would pick would be a good choice :)

I really love how Emmanuel Pahud plays Bach... I wish he'd record the Sonatas! (Right now, I think he only has the Partita and the Brandenburgs out)

There is a 2-CD set of Rampal's called "20th Century Flute Masterpieces" that I feel is a must-have. It includes Ibert, Poulenc, Hindemith, Khachaturian, Prokofiev, Jolivet... I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Also, I must have anything recorded by Alexa Still! :D

Haha, this one is my favorite:

what no jazz flutists?

Just to add a little variety to the favorite list. I vote for sir Nestor Torres. His latin jazz flute music is light, airy and joyful, why even the cells in my feet want to dance when I hear it. He flies through the octaves with grace, his fingers are like lightening. If sunbeams dancing on water could play a flute they would sound like Nestor! Yeah magic.

If you truly want to hear the best flute recording ever, you do in fact want to check out Pahud's CD's. Don't look for the Bach or Mozart however. His Telemann CD is without a dobt the best. You can talk to any flautist who activly performs today and they will all tell you the same thing - Pahud's interpretation of Telemann is simply the best and the favourite recording in all their collections.

I really mean this, the playing is out of this world - very inspirational indeed. It will be your best purchase all year - especially as a student!

I like Irena Grafenauer! You can find her CDs on Amazon. Everything she recorded is great. She recorded for Philips.
