Since i'm pretty new here I decided to go back and read old posts. I came across Fluteguy's pictures of his beautiful new flute and I thought...hey....maybe we should get artistic~ish...and I took a few shots of my girls...

It's a Gemeinhardt KGM Limited (I know what you're thinking but it really does have a beautiful sound with the new H1 thinwall headjoint) and Burkart & Phelan Global piccolo.

Shiny. If Gemeinhardt is your thing, then good for you! My professor knew through another colleague when she was in mexico the principal flutist of a major latin american orchestra [the name escapes me right now.... I just know it began with either an O or a C....]. His instrument of choice was actually a Gemeinhardt 2sp.... and he was a principle [and she said quite a competant one at that]. So whatever floats your boat, because I am not here to judge!

I was curious about your picc when I saw it though... I dont think I have tried one of those.... or if I have, I didnt read the maker's name.... I will keep them in mind at the next convention I go to, and make a point to try them out.

I absolutely LOVE the global pic....you should definitely check it out...the 4rth octave speaks so effortlessly and the intonation is wonderful!

I yook some pretty neat lookin pics of my flute once....I don't know what happened to them....I think they were deleated or something....anyhoo...I have a "stander issue"(as I call it) gemeinhardt. I don't know what model it is, I just know that It has seen FAR better days, that It desperately needs to be fixed, and it's not as shiny as yours is anymore...I wish I would have taken better care of it when It was new...

Hang on, let me get my sunglasses... Hmm. Don't know which is more dazzling, you or your 'girls'!

So, how do you keep them looking like that? Or is it just the lighting? The only thing I'll bring anywhere near mine is a 100% cotton cloth to wipe off fingermarks. (It's a guy flute by the way, he has just a little extra silver thingy - well, to be honest it's not all *that* little, but he wouldn't want me braggin' about it...)

LOL...now you're making me blush!

I'm a little OCD when it comes to touching my flute. I only touch it with my bare hands when i'm actually playing...otherwise I hold it using a pink cotton cloth. I wipe all the fingerprints off everytime I put it away and I wipe it gently with a silver instrument cloth (not treated with polish but it removes tarnish) about once a week. I wish I could just play it and not care about going through the 20 minute ritual that I have for cleaning it up at the end of a practice session but it's pretty much a compulsion! Oh well...what can you do?

And it's not the size that counts....it's more what you can do with the little extra silver thing

WHOA! IT MAKES ME ALMOST WANT TO GET THAT GEMEINHARDT, Haha. Nice piccolo, too! Burkhart isnt my cup of tea, I sound like a tin can on it as I discovered at this years Florida Flute Fair (did you go?) and Hammig is better for me! But your instruments look great! Did you go to Festival of Winds at USF last December?

Unfortunately I wasn't able to go since my twin sister got married on the weekend of the flute fair and i'm a little bit past the student part of my life ( i'm 28 ) so no I didn't go to the festival of winds.

Wha..? You got a TWIN sister? And she just got married?? Well, ain't that a kick in the head. Talk about life's a * and then you die...

Ahem... still, as far as cleaning goes, I'm trying to get to that point where my sax playing buddy can say "I don't particularly care how it looks, just how it sounds. This works for me and many other people". But I can empathise with you.

Anyhoo, let's not get on to the subject of my flute's boondoggle... there are children present, after all. But I will say it's a must have when you're trying to get to the top of the fourth octave and beyond...

I have a Geminhardt 2sp, I can't wait to get a new flute...

Does that have a gold lip plate, or is it gold plated?

It's solid 9K gold...you can't engrave gold or silver plating.

Not at all. The engraving helps reduce slippage if you perspire while you're playing, but it won't affect how you play or the flute sounds. It's an aesthetic touch that can personalize the flute, but also serves a purpose. The lipplate has very little to do with tone production, except at the edge of the embouchure hole where it meets the riser.

On the comment about the lip plate not affecting tone, I saw some headjoints by an American maker who have the side of the lip plate furthest away from the lips cut away.......surely this must have an effect? Also the shape of the lip plate must make a difference as seen in Sankyo and Powell headjoints where there are different shapes both from face down and profile views.
