Baroque Concert

Post by MonikaFL »

I played a baroque concert with 3 of my friends on a concert series out of town this weekend. We only had about 3 weeks to prepare all of the music (ack!). My husband recorded it (live!) using only my little $10 SmartMusic microphone and his laptop (using the free program Audacity).

So if anyone is interested, you can listen here:

I'm playing flute (and some harp), we have a soprano, bassoon, and of course harpsichord.

It was SUPER cold in that room and my fingers were really trying to not cooperate. It took us 90 minutes to get the harpsichord and harp tuned... so we didn't get to do a sound check before the concert. Scary! LOL

But WOW what a fun concert. During intermission we peeked out, and the whole audience was up on the stage looking at the harpsichord and harp... which we were going to invite them to do at the end. So, before the last piece, we had an impromptu Q&A session. It was really fun, passing the microphone around to answer questions about the instruments, how long we've been playing, etc. I love when we get to connect with the audience like that.

Oh that sounds wonderful! I'm sure it was great fun! I miss doing those little intimate recitals and concerts! I was in a flute quartet in my early twenties and I just lived for those gigs. You all sounded great and i'm sure you sounded even better live. And I absolutely love the harpsichord!
