Help me choose b/w Yamaha YFL361H and Sonare SF5000

Post by supasorn »

I'm choosing between Yamaha YFL361H and Sonare SF5000
I hope I can try both in the music store but does anybody recommend or have a comment on either of these flutes. Dis/advantage? Preference?

Any comments will be appreciated.
Thank you

I have a Sonare SF7000, and I have a lot of potential on it. I really enjoy it. of course, thats from a yamaha student model though. Yamaha is a good name too though. lol.

It really depends on the person though, id say try both, and bring your teacher if you can, see what they say. (my teacher went with me to buy mine. I didnt know what to listen for! lol.)

Is SF7000 much different from SF5000?
BTW, I have a budget of around $1000.

Have you played them both? I ask because I have found that to me, as with most flutes, these two are quite different. The key action is one thing that comes to mind. You will also want to consider, above all, sound. Be sure to play them both if you have not done so, and listen carefully to intonation, clarity, and color in the sound.

Fluttiegirl is quite right, as always! However, there are many other makes and models within your budget that you should take a look at (look at the thread titled Flute FAQ 1.1 for lists of other makers that you should look into). Also, keep in mind that the only difference between the 300 series Yammies and the 200's is the amount of silver, and most likely whether it's openhole or not, but headjoint is the same cut, so it's going to respond and sound much the same as a 200 series Yamaha would.
