I'm not working on any solo peices right now, authough I recently was working on Hyden's "Minuetto in C" very easy peice... Our band is learning "Overture for Winds" ...I can't remember the composer's name... we have been working on this peice all hour every day for the last 2 weeks...I know it by heart...

oh, I remember another one...I'm in a quartet playing McKay's Sonotina Giocosa...I don't know if I got the spelling right, but that's a hard peice... It's not going so well.

Ha ha. I remember when our band had to play "Overture for Winds"...And the director so angry when nobody practiced it that she eliminated the piece...

Right now, I'm playing Sicilienne by Faure. It's a fairly easy piece...just warming up for harder pieces....

I love the Giffes, and the bach partita is rather nice as well.

The 11th/12th All County Band played Cloudburst this year! I was int he 9th/10th band (being a sophomore) but the piece sounded fun, especially the piccolo part in some section that I can't remember clearly.

got a new peice yesterday: Meditation from "Thias" by Massenet.
It's pretty easy, but it sounds really neat with piano. I can't wait to preform it! :D

Just out of interest, why so much repertoire? How much do you practice each day, as the works by Schubert, Ibert and Mercandante are substantial, and surely you cannot have the time to work all of these pieces up to performance standard?

Hi.
Well the pieces are coming along at different times, I knew the Cantabile et Presto a long while ago and learnt the C.P.E. Bach last year but I am using them for an exam I'm sitting in Aug/Sep so I'm keeping them up to standard and you always learn new things. I learnt the Roussel and Hindemith earlier this year but again they are for the exam and I'm keeping them up to standard. I'm learning the Mercadante for my end of year recital and the Ibert and Schubert are long term projects for me. I balance them out fairly well. I'm actually a music major at uni so I get a lot of time to practice since its what I'm doing :)

Tara.
